About Us
The Lower CT Valley Branch (LCV) of the AAUW was established in 1972 and currently has 125 members.
We pride ourselves on our members’ commitment to making LCV an active and strong organization that offers engaging programs featuring nationally known authors and speakers, and a wide variety of activities for members to enjoy.
Supporting AAUW National…. We strongly support national AAUW’s mission to promote education and equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
Supporting Women…
Our annual spring Book Author Luncheon fundraiser raised more than $83,000 funding 33 education grants for women over the past ten years… These women are outstanding college students in need of financial assistance. Our area business and corporate sponsors provided major support. Recently our education grants have increased from $2,000 to $4,000 per student providing higher impact support.
College undergraduate women benefit from the motivation, knowledge, skills and connections they gain at National AAUW’s annual National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in Washington DC. Each year we sponsor CT women undergraduates. Twenty-four women have attended and report it is a “life-changing experience”.
Our members generously support us with direct contributions to our newly formed LCV Educational and Scholarship Program (a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization). In its first year, members generously donated $14,000 — and support is growing. Member Barbara Spargo established and funded the Alan Spargo Memorial Fund from 2019 through 2023. Her $10,000 in contributions sustained our scholarship program during Covid – and we are most grateful, as are the student recipients.
